We are going to Mount Everest! That’s not the Mount Everest, also known as Sagarmatha or ‘head in the sky’ – the highest mountain on Earth in the Himalayas – but rather one of a number of sandstone crags set in the game park in amongst rhino, ostriches, waterbuck and mountain zebra, that is fairly popular with the climbing and hiking fraternity and less than 3 hours drive from Joburg.

Mount Everest Guest Farm is a 1000 hectare, working farm and game sanctuary. 21km outside of Harrismith.

Formerly known as Eagle Mountain, its nestled between rolling grasslands and majestic mountains in the scenic Eastern Free State just 21km from Harrismith. Whether you are seeking adventure or peace and quiet, you will find it here. Rock climbing, hiking and fishing, all can be had at Mount Everest Guest Farm. Some of the species of game are zebra, lechwe, blesbuck, wildebeest, springbuck and waterbuck, as well as some meerkat colonies.

Spectacular views and free-roaming game make for amazing wildlife photography. 120 species of birds inhabit Mount Everest. Discounted rates if you are a member of a bird-watching club or Birdlife SA.
