Suikerboschfontein
We looked far and wide to bring you the best outdoor experience any hiker would drool over. The gorgeous unspoiled natural beauty will calm your soul, while the surprises around every corner will thrill even the most adventurous among us. Fern-rich indigenous wooded ravines with clear streams and waterfalls create a restful atmosphere. Ancient ruins and rock art, unique rock formations, rock pools to swim in – these trails offer everything a nature enthusiast could ask for.
Situated about 20 km northeast of Carolina, Mpumalanga, this 1244 hectare farm is only 250 km from Johannesburg. It was proclaimed the Paulina van Niekerk Nature Reserve in 1965 and has a large variation in terrain forms and flora.
There are more than 90 identified and marked tree species and a large variety of wild flowers. The Knysna Loerie, Bald Ibus and large eagles count among the 160 bird species recorded on the farm. Baboons, monkeys, bush pigs, warthogs, klipspringers, rhebuck and other small animals are frequently encountered along the trials.
The trails with GREENFLAG accreditation are scientifically designed and expertly laid out to meet the needs of hikers and also to conserve the area.
